World Bank to provide 30 million USD to improve Dushanbe residents’ access to safe drinking water
Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali yesterday received Mr. Jan-Peter Olters, World Bank Country Manager for Tajikistan.
The Dushanbe Administration press center says the parties discussed issues related to implementation of a new project aimed at providing residents of Dushanbe with safe drinking water.
In the framework of the project, which is designed for the period of 2020-2024, the World Bank will provide 30 million USD in grant and Dushanbe Administration’s contribution to the project will be 2 million U.S. dollars.
The parties also discussed construction of a new sewerage treatment facility “Varzob,” the press center said.
The main objectives of the project are reportedly to improve reliability of water supply and wastewater services in selected areas in Dushanbe City and to improve the operational performance of the Dushanbe Water Utility.
The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved the Dushanbe Water Supply and Wastewater Project in Tajikistan on June 5, 2019.
