Free online English course made available to Tajik migrants seeking work in Europe
A free online English language course (Anglo-Tajik) has been made available to labor migrants from Tajikistan who wish to find work in European and CIS countries, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Tajikistan. An official source at IOM Mission in Tajikistan says the course was developed in collaboration with the educational platform Smarthub and is provided under the UK’s program for seasonal workers."This course is part of the UK’s seasonal worker program and is offered for free. Migrants have already started using this opportunity to improve their skills in order to find jobs in countries such as the UK, the USA, Germany, Poland, Kazakhstan, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and others," the source said.According to her, over 200 people have already taken the course. The course covers the following key topics: Basic communication in English -- introducing oneself, asking questions, and exchanging basic information.English at the workplace -- understanding instructions, safety protocols, and communicating with supervisors and colleagues.Culture and traditions -- familiarizing participants with cultural and social norms in the UK to help with adaptation.Everyday English -- learning how to communicate in daily situations, such as shopping, traveling, and interacting with locals. The online course, prepared using a specialized methodology, reportedly allows migrants to study at their convenience, whether they are at home, traveling, or at work. Each module is designed by experienced English language teachers, taking into account the specific challenges migrants face in the UK. The course also includes tests and interactive exercises for more effective learning.Upon completion, labor migrants will receive a certificate from the IOM, confirming their language proficiency and readiness for labor migration.Amid tightening migration laws in Russia and Western anti-Russian sanctions shrinking the labor market in Russia, both authorities and citizens of Tajikistan are looking for alternative destinations for labor migration. Many Tajik nationals are already working in Germany, Poland, the Baltic nations, Romania, and the UK. As reported earlier, last year, around 1,000 workers from Tajikistan went to the UK for fruit and vegetable harvesting.
