Grape production has increased 11 times in Tajikistan
Growers in Tajikistan have harvested more than 31 thousand tons of grapes by September 1, 2024, which is 11 times more than in the same period last year.The Ministry of Agriculture noted that in the winter of 2022, cold weather ruined most of the grape plantations, which negatively affected the production of this crop. However, experienced horticultural farmers have managed to restore vineyards and increase production in a short period of time.According to the Ministry of Agriculture, a good harvest of other crops has been harvested this year.In the summer, more than 270 thousand tons of various fruits were harvested, which is 54% more than in the same period of 2023.The harvest of fruits and grapes continues and by the end of the year, the figures may increase by several more percent.Compared to last year, vegetable production increased by 25% and amounted to 1.1 million tons. Including 515 thousand tons of onions (an increase of 13%), 192 thousand tons of tomatoes (+36%), 128 thousand tons of carrots (+42%), 107 thousand tons of cucumbers (12%), 160 thousand tons of other vegetable crops (+66%) were grown.There was a 53% increase in the production of melons crops – watermelons, melons and pumpkins - and reached 563 thousand tons. Potato harvest increased by 35% and amounted to 280 thousand tons. The production of cereals and forage crops has also increased.To date, more than 808 thousand tons of grain have been harvested, which is 4% more than in the same period of 2023. Of these, about 645 thousand tons are wheat, which is 3.8% less than last year's volume.Currently, farmers in Tajikistan have re-sown crops on an area of more than 201 thousand hectares, which is 5 thousand hectares more than planned and 14 thousand hectares more than in 2023.Cereals, vegetables, potatoes and forage herbs are grown in these fields.
