China provides US$2 million for construction of assembly hall in new building of Tajik government
China provides a grant of 2 million US dollars to Tajikistan for construction an assembly hall in the new building of the Government of Tajikistan.
The document on this subject was signed here by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavqi Zavqizoda and China’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Ji Shumin on January 29.  
The press center of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT) says the grant comes from exchange letters signed between the Government of Tajikistan and the Government of China on August 21, 2023 during the visit of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) also Mayor of Dushanbe Rustam Emomali to Beijing.  
After the document signing ceremony, Zavqizoda and Ji reportedly held a meeting to discuss trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China.  
Mr. Zavqizoda, in particular, noted that thanks to the wise and far-sighted policies of the leaders of the two countries, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and China’s President Xi Jinping, trade and economic cooperation between the countries has reached a new level, and the volume of the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and China is increasing every year.
It was noted that the two-way trade between Tajikistan and China rose 24 percent in 2023, reaching more than 1.3 billion US dollars.  Last year, China reportedly ranked second in the structure of the country’s foreign trade turnover following the Russian Federation.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority areas of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, including the launch of joint ventures in Tajikistan and the bilateral collaboration in the digital and green economy.
The parties also discussed the progress of construction of the new building of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, in particular, building “B” of this facility.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation.
Recall, the head of the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan Nizom Mirzozoda told reporters in Dushanbe o August 2 last year that new buildings for Tajikistan’s government and parliament will be commissioned in 2024.
According to the Committee for Architecture and Construction, the main building of the parliamentary complex will be 49.7 meters in height and its total area will be 42,874 square meters.
The Governmental complex will consist of one 15-story building and two 13-story buildings and its total area will be 10.27 hectares.
China has allotted 1.5 billion yuans (equivalent to about 220 million U.S. dollars) in no-strings aid to Tajikistan for construction of the parliament complex and the new building for the Tajik government.
An agreement on awarding this grant was signed in September 2017 during President Emomali Rahmon’s state visit to Beijing.   
A year later, Tajikistan and China signed a government-to-government agreement on providing additional grant aid to Tajikistan in the amount of 900 million yuans (equivalent to 129.5 million U.S. dollars) for preparation and implementation of the project on constructing these buildings as well a number of energy, infrastructure development, culture and education projects.
President Emomali Rahmon and the then Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Keqiang took part in ceremonies to lay the foundation stones to the new buildings of Parliament and Government of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on October 13, 2018.
