Russia expected to supply high-tech equipment to Tajikistan
Nikolai Nikulin, Director of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB)’s Representative Office in Tajikistan, and Masrur Nazriyev, authorized representative of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development, yesterday held a working meeting with the Russian Trade Representative in Tajikistan Yevgeny Korenkov, according to the EDB press center.
Yevgeny Korenkov reportedly proposed that the EDB take part in large infrastructure projects that would involve the supply of Russian high-tech equipment for various sectors of Tajikistan’s economy and health sector.
“The EDB is ready to consider participation in the most important investment projects aimed at advancing and strengthening Tajikistan’s economic potential and cooperation with the Russian Federation,” said Nikolai Nikulin, Head of the EDB Representative Office.
During the meeting, the sides also discussed the implementation of the resolutions of the 17th session of the Tajik-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, which took place in Moscow in January 2021.
It is to be noted that for the first time in recent decade, Russia has not been in the first place among major trading partners of Tajikistan.
According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Switzerland and Kazakhstan bypassed Russia in bilateral trade with Tajikistan.
Over the first three months of this year, the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Russian has valued at 223 million U.S. dollars, which is 14 percent fewer than in the same period last year.
