GBAO residents ask local authorities to curb prices for basic food products
A resident of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) has applied to GBAO governor Yodgor Faizov with a request to curb prices for the basic food products.  Other residents of the region have supported his post on Facebook
Rashid Rajabovich wrote a letter to GBAO governor Yodgor Faizov on his Facebook page asking him to take measures to curb prices for basic food products in the region.  According to him, merchants at local bazaars have unreasonably raised prices for basic food products (flour, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, vegetables and others) over the past two months.
The post notes that in the case if the authorities do not take measures, “people have full legal right to organize peaceful rallies until the situation with prices is put in order.”
Asia-Plus has got in touch with Rashid Rajabovich and he said that the price for a 500 kilogram sack of wheat flour at region’s bazaars had risen from 195 somoni to 250 somoni.  One kilogram of potatoes, previously 4.00-5.00 somoni, now costs 5.50-7.00 somoni, the price for one kilogram of carrots has risen from 2.00 somoni to 2.50-3.00 somoni, the price for one kilogram of onions has risen from 3.00 somoni to 5.00 somoni, and the price for one liter of milk has risen from 5,.00 somoni to 6.00-7.00 somoni.
Meanwhile, by GBAO governor’s order a special commission has been set up to stabilize prices for basic food products at Khorog’s central bazaar.
According to some sources, local authorities have decided to lower rent for merchants by 30-35 percent so that they would reduce prices for basic food products.
