Emomali Rahmon invites Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah to pay visit to Tajikistan
On Monday February 10, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin was received by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
According to the Tajik MFA information department, His Majesty Hassanal Bolkiah and Sirojiddin Muhriddin discussed issues related to expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Brunei Darussalam.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reportedly conveyed the invitation of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon addressed to Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah to participate in the High-Level International Conference "Water for Sustainable Development" in Dushanbe, the Tajik MFA information department said.
The conference will take place in Dushanbe from June 18-20 this year.
The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam reportedly conveyed his greetings and sincere wishes to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and referring to the state visit of the President of Tajikistan to Brunei in 2010, noted that the reciprocal visit will be followed.
Meanwhile, Borneo Bulletin reports that the two sides discussed matters in expanding existing cooperation by focusing in the field of education through collaboration between higher education institutions of both countries, as well as exploring new cooperation that are mutually beneficial.
Accompanying the minister was Ambassador of Tajikistan to Malaysia Ardasher Qodiri.
Also present was Minister of Foreign Affairs II Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd Yusof.
The audience ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman, according to Borneo Bulletin.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Brunei Darussalam were established on June 2, 2004. Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Tajikistan has its residence in Moscow, Russia.
In April 2010, President Emomali Rahmon paid a state visit to the State of Brunei Darussalam. During the visit the both sides held talks at the highest level. The visited resulted in signing of four documents on the basis of many-sided collaboration between the two countries in the field trade and investment, further cooperation and abolition of visa requirements.
In 2018, the two-way trade between Tajikistan and Brunei Darussalam reportedly valued at only 100,000 U.S. dollars. Meanwhile, Tajikistan’s statistical bulletin for 2019 does not provide information about the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Brunei Darussalam.
