Tajik Foreign Minister expected to hold talks with US Secretary of State in Tashkent in early February
Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin is expected to hold talks with US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent in early February.
According to information posted on the US Department of State website, the Secretary of State will travel to Tashkent February 2-3, where he will meet with President Mirziyoyev and Foreign Minister Kamilov to underscore U.S. support for Uzbekistan’s reforms and the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
In Tashkent, the Secretary will also participate in a C5+1 Ministerial with the foreign ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to stress U.S. support for a better connected, more prosperous, and more secure Central Asia, consistent with the U.S.’s new Central Asia Strategy.
Before his visit to Uzbekistan, Mr. Pompeo will travel to London on January 29, Kyiv (Ukraine) on January 30, Minsk (Belarus) on February 1. Following his visit to Minsk, the U.S. Secretary of State will travel to Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan).
Recall, the C5+1 Ministerial Meeting and a meeting of the U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo with Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin was supposed to be held in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent on January 6 but an attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad and its volatile aftermath prompted U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo to postpone his trip to Central Asia’s nations.
