Warriors meet with Obama instead of White House visit
In their only trip to Washington this season, the Golden State Warriors decided to meet with former President Barack Obama instead of a traditional visit to the White House.The defending NBA champions were disinvited by President Donald Trump after saying they wouldn’t go to meet him, anyway. Golden State hasn’t visited the the White House since Trump took office.
A picture posted to Instagram Thursday night showed the meeting.
The Warriors were in the nation’s capital to play the Wizards, whom they defeated 126-118 off Stephen Curry’s 38-point performance.
Instead of the White House visit, the Warriors decided to tour the National Museum of African American History and Culture with students from Kevin Durant’s nearby hometown for the second year in a row.
It was unclear where the meeting with Obama took place.
The WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx also participated in community service events last summer after Trump declined to invite the team.
Nancy Pelosi also invited Golden State to the Capitol for the second year in a row.
Trump got into a spat with LeBron James during the NBA Finals last season after he uninvited the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I know no matter who wins this series, no one wants to get invited anyway,” James said at a news conference last year. “It won’t be Golden State or Cleveland going.”
Curry agreed with him, saying: “I agree with ’Bron. Pretty sure the way we handled things last year, kinda staying consistent with that.”
