The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today ratified a grant aid framework agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Government of the Republic of Korea in the summer this year. The amount of grants Dushanbe is expected to receive from Seoul will be coordinated in the near future.
Presenting the document to lawmakers, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Nematullo Hikmtullozodoa said the grants would be spent to organize refresher courses for Tajik specialists in South Korea and involve Korean experts in implementation of various projects in Tajikistan.
Besides, South Korea intends to implement a number of social development projects in Tajikistan under this agreement, the minister noted.
According to him, the amount of grants Seoul is expected to award to Dushanbe will be coordinated in the near future.
The Republic of Korea was among the first countries to recognize Tajikistan after it gained its independence. Officially, the diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and South Korea were established on April 27, 1992. The first official visit of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to South Korea that took place in May 2005 gave a new impulse to further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
