Tajik football players win over African champions in Group E of the FIFA U-17 World Cup
Tajik football players enjoyed an opening day 1-0 win over Cameroon in Group E of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019.  The win places Tajikistan top of Group E after Spain and Argentina played to a goalless draw.
After a goalless first half that witnessed back-to-back action from both sides, Tajikistan head coach Zainiddin Rahimov sent on Rustam Soirov and Hamadoni Kamolov after the break.
It was a defensive mistake by Cameroon, however, that saw Tajik football players awarded a penalty kick, and Sharifbek Rahmatov duly converted from the spot to break the deadlock.
Tajikistan suffered a setback in the 72nd minute when Shuhrat Elmurodov was booked for a second time and given his marching orders.
Cameroon tried to take advantage but Tajikistan remained resolute to secure all three points.
FIFA U-17 World Cup’ official website says It was a perfect way to start for the Tajiks in their first match on the world stage since 2007, while the west Africans were left licking their wounds on their return after a 16-year absence.
Tajik football players will be aiming to continue their fine form when they play Spain next.
The tournament, the 18th edition, is taking place between October 26 and November 17 across four venues in three host cities – Gama, Goiania and Cariacica.  There are 24 teams across six continental federations.
