Tajik rescuers save pair from Poland stranded in the Pamir mountains
Rescuers from the Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan have saved a couple from Poland who have been stranded in an uninhabited area in Murgab district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
Ms. Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, says they receive call at around 2:00 pm on October 3 that two Polish tourists gave a distress signal SOS in an area between Karakul and Mozkuli in GBAO’s Murgab district.
A rescue team of the Murgab emergency management agency and volunteers from Karakul village have been sent to the emergency site. “They found Polish citizens – Bogdan Gas, 38, and his wife Ivanna Girishska, 34 – at 3:40 pm the same day,” Yusufi said.
According to her, the Polish tourists were traveling by car when their car’s engine stalled in an uninhabited area in Murgab district.
“They did not need medical aid and they were taken to the village of Karakul for repairing their car,” the Emergencies Committee spokeswoman said.
