At least thirteen people were freed from a Taliban prison during an operation by Afghan special forces in Nahr-e-Siraj district in Helmand province, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The statement said the individuals were all civilians.
The ministry also claimed that dozens of civilians and security forces have been released from Taliban prison over the past few months.
